Washington, Jan 20: Scientists say yes, but of course theres a catch.
Desperate for the creamy goodness inside that bowl of guac? Well, today`s your lucky day. Thanks to new research by the American Medical Association, dietary fat is no longer the bogeyman it once was, and a lot of fatty foods, including fish, nuts, and avocados, are good in Boogeyman of weight loss and heart health.
In a paper published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, reasearchers Dr.Dariush Mozaffarian and Dr.David Ludwig found that keeping off weight was not so much about how much fat you eat but what type of fat you consume. Healthy fats, like the ones found in nuts and fish, are linked to lower obesity rates and a lower risk of heart disease, Meanwhile, dietary cholesterol doesn`t significantly affect blood cholesterol, which means that, after years of bad publicity, eggs now have a full pardon.
As a result of these findings, the AMA now recommends that the government drop its guidelines, which are released every five years, surrounding dietary cholesterol, and dash its upper limit on total fat consumption. They also recommend the government set limits for refined grains and added sugar- the real culprits behind obesity and heart disease.
